The number one question I get from people buying THC gummies for the first time: “how many should I take?” And honestly the answer sucks because its different for literally everyone. But I can give you a framework that actually works instead of the generic “start low go slow” advice that tells you nothing useful.
Why Dosage Is So Tricky With Edibles
Edibles are not like smoking or vaping. When you smoke, THC goes straight to your brain through your lungs — you feel it in minutes and you can stop whenever. With gummies, the THC has to go through your digestive system first, get processed by your liver, and THEN hit your brain. That process takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on your metabolism, what you ate that day, and honestly just… luck sometimes.
The other thing about edibles is your liver converts Delta 9 THC into 11-hydroxy-THC, which is actually MORE potent and longer lasting than regular THC. Thats why edibles feel different (and stronger) than smoking the same amount. Its literally a different drug by the time it hits your brain.
The Dosage Tiers
Heres my breakdown based on experience and what most of our customers report:
Microdose: 2-5mg THC
You probably wont feel “high” in the traditional sense. More like a subtle mood lift, reduced stress, maybe a bit more creative. Good for working, socializing, or just taking the edge off a long day. Some people microdose daily like a supplement.
Light Dose: 5-15mg THC
Now were talking. This is where most beginners should start. Youll feel relaxed, maybe a bit giggly, colors might look a tiny bit more vivid. Very functional — you can still have conversations and go about your day. This is also the sweet spot for people who get anxious with higher doses.
Moderate Dose: 15-30mg THC
This is the “okay Im definitely high” zone. Noticeable euphoria, body relaxation, the munchies will probably show up. Great for a chill evening, watching movies, or hanging with friends. Most regular users sit in this range.
Strong Dose: 30-50mg THC
For experienced users who have a tolerance built up. Expect a strong body high, intense relaxation, and probably some couch lock. Not a great dose for social situations unless everyone else is on the same level lol.
Heavy Dose: 50mg+
Only for people who KNOW their tolerance. This is where things get intense. Products like the Budbuddy Flower 40,000MG pack are designed for heavy users who need higher doses to feel effects. Each gummy in these packs is strong — dont treat them like candy.
Factors That Affect Your Dose
Same gummy, same dose, two different people can have completely different experiences. Heres what matters:
- Body weight — bigger people generally need more. Not always, but its a factor
- Metabolism — fast metabolism = faster onset, shorter duration. Slow metabolism = takes longer to kick in but lasts forever
- Empty vs full stomach — taking gummies on an empty stomach means faster and stronger effects. Eating a fatty meal before can actually increase absorption (THC is fat soluble)
- Tolerance — daily users need significantly more than occasional users. Thats just how it works
- The product itself — a 10mg D9 gummy hits different than a 10mg D8 gummy. Blends with THC-P will feel stronger than pure D8 even at the same mg
The Golden Rule for Beginners
Take ONE gummy (or even half of one). Wait TWO FULL HOURS before deciding if you need more. I know thats annoying. I know after 45 minutes youll think “this isnt working” and want to take another. DO NOT DO THIS. The number of texts Ive gotten from friends saying “bro I took 4 because I didnt feel anything and now Im on another planet” is too many to count.
Edibles have a delayed onset. They WILL kick in. Be patient.
What If You Took Too Much?
First of all — youre going to be fine. Nobody has ever died from THC. It might feel terrible for a few hours but its physically impossible to OD on. Here are some things that help:
- Drink water. Stay hydrated
- Eat something — food helps your body process the THC faster
- CBD can actually counteract some of the THC intensity if you have any around
- Black pepper — sounds weird but chewing on a few peppercorns can reduce anxiety from THC. Its a real thing, Google it
- Lay down in a dark quiet room and ride it out. Put on a familiar show. Sleep if you can
- Remind yourself it WILL end. No high lasts forever even though it feels like it might
Dosage By Product Type
Different products have different dose ranges. Quick reference:
- Low dose gummies (like Viva La Hemp 1600MG) — easier to dose precisely, good for beginners
- High dose gummies (like The Strngst Super Blend) — each gummy is potent, meant for experienced users
- THC drinks (like Looper D9 Soda Pop) — faster onset than gummies because liquid absorbs quicker. Usually lighter dose per serving
Bottom line: start small, be patient, and figure out YOUR dose over a few sessions. Once you find your sweet spot, edibles become the most consistent and enjoyable way to consume THC. Way better than guessing with a joint imo.
